The Evolution of Consciousness Into The Age of Aquarius
If things feel like they are changing rapidly right now – that’s because they are. We’ve been in entering a brand new astrological age as a planet, known as The Age of Aquarius. In this episode I’ll explain the astrology and astronomy behind the phenomena and discuss some of the key characteristics of this age. I also share Yogi Bhajan’s sutras for the Aquarian Age because they are extremely helpful for navigating this new energy.

Hello and welcome back.
A lot of you who know me know that I am also an astrologer. I’m really into it. It’s a very useful tool and highly practical. It has been a calling and a passion of mine from a very young age. When I was in sixth grade, I had to write a paper on what I want to be when I grow up. I wrote it on becoming an astrologer. They were like, “You mean astronomer?” Like, my teacher and people. I was like, “No, I definitely mean astrologer,” but we had to use this software and pull the salary estimates from this Piscean database of jobs, which is a very limited scope of types of jobs that people can do in that time. Astrologer was not one of them.
So, I had to rewrite my paper and write it on the movement of the planets from astronomers’ standpoint. The salary was not that great. As a diligent student, I did look at all these other numbers that the finance people would make, and the lawyers would make, and the doctors would make. It was like, “Man. If only I actually cared about those things.” I’ve had that moral dilemma from a very young age. It’s not like those numbers weren’t available to any of us when we were choosing what profession or what direction to take our life. Sometimes it’s not in our control what direction our life takes us.
So, anyway. I’m happy to be back in that astrologer saddle. Having the ability to practice and study it, from multiple standpoints. I’ve studied tropical zodiac, sidereal zodiac, evolutionary astrology. I practice mainly tropical, which is the Western model, because that’s what is most understood by my clients. So, I don’t think it’s really helpful to tell an Aries that they’re not an Aries. They don’t react well to that.
So, it’s … My actual philosophy, my personal theory behind astrology, because I’ve spent a lot of time, of course, meditating on it myself, is that anyone who’s really a tuned-in astrologer, there’s definite necessity to have the technical knowledge of the craft, because it is a technical science, but an intuitive astrologer can read any chart. Meaning if you give a great astrologer the wrong chart for someone, they’re still going to pick up on the exact characteristics of the person in front of them. So, I mean, that’s a much … I don’t hear that very often from other astrologers out there who are practicing, but that has been my experience. It holds water, in my opinion.
The other thing is I look at astrology as … I look at these charts. So, basically, we draw a birth chart for the moment that you take your first breath. That moment is an imprint of your soul’s intentions for this lifetime, because basically, the way I look at it, we, in a non-physical form, have an intention, a kind of direction, meaning something we want to work with when we’re coming into this physical form in human life. The breadcrumb of that is our vibrational frequency. We have access to our vibrational frequency right now. You don’t need a birth chart to know what your vibrational frequency is. Look around your space right now. That’s your vibrational frequency. Your life, your current state of your life is an emanation of your vibrational frequency.
The birth chart, though, has a very pure imprint of what that intention or that frequency looks like. So, it’s helpful to return to that because sometimes our lives can take us a little bit off track. Sometimes that’s part of it, actually, is that the trends are intended to take us off track. It’s really this massive, beautiful, moving poem. It’s like this happens then that happens, so that this can happen. It’s so much more complex than anything I can really, truly summarize, but it’s beautiful. It is highly validating because we go through a lot. The charts always support it. To know that there may be a bigger, greater reason, even if we don’t know what that is, and I think it’s silly for us to pretend to know what it is, it’s so comforting when we need it the most.
So, there’s that. Then I also just think it’s really practical because if you want to live at a higher level of the emanation of the chart, because I think you can play it out at many different layers. There’s one incarnation that you can take with that chart, and what it will look like will look totally different than a different version of you, if that makes any sense.
So, for instance, I actually see the chart playing out in cycles. So, there’s a kind of child interpretation of a chart and then a mid-life interpretation of a chart, and then an adult interpretation of a chart, maybe even an elderly interpretation of the chart. So, depending on where someone is in their life cycle, the situations that are going to play out are obviously going to look differently.
Then, even within those situations themselves, the quality of the frequency, the height of it, if they can take it to the highest emanation of it, that’s going to look a lot different than just a kind of basic level of expression. So, it’s really beautiful.
When I use astrology, my intentions are for it to be as useful, validating, and practical as possible. I’m not into the magician tricks. I don’t care for the daily transits in major ways because I think it just promotes neuroticness, or neurosis. There you go. Neuroticness. There you go.
So, I don’t personally let myself go there. So, I also try not to let that carry too much weight, because we also intuitively know how things are going. Often, we’re working with the energy of our transits, whether we’re conscious of the transit or not. So, again, this is where it’s that validating frequency, or a guiding force. If you’re like, “Okay, wait. Hold on. I feel a little mixed up or blurry right now,” and then you’re like, “Okay, let me get some clarity for my chart.” It’s like, “Oh, Neptune. I won’t get clarity. Great,” but at least you have clarity that you’re not going to get clarity. So, it’s good stuff.
What I want to talk to you about today is this concept of the Age of Aquarius. It’s something that, for some reason, the perception of it that I carried for a little bit, or that I pick up from people, is that it’s a little bit of this, “Is this even real?” Like, “Oh, great. Another thing we’re just making up so that we can sell products. The New Age.” Like an economic or a PR stunt. It’s not. It’s actually a very scientific situation. So, I want to go into that a little bit today and talk to you about some of the characteristics of this period that we’re in because, basically, we’re transitioning out of this 2,000 year characteristic of life into a whole new expression of it.
That’s why when things feel like they’re getting upended right now, it’s because they are. Completely. So, these ages. Let me explain the technical details of this and how this works. So, as clearly as I can, hopefully, and I’m using … I really like this book, The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need, by Joanna Woolfolk. Woolfolk? Woolfolk?
I recommend this to people when they’re like, “You know, I just want to learn how to read my chart a little bit and go deeper.” It’s pretty good. It covers a lot of ground. So, it’s a good place to start. I mean, it’s a good headline. I’m into the claim. It’s Western tropical zodiac, so it’s great. You’ll get it. I’m on page 399, if you do purchase the book. So, this is where we’re going into this Age of Aquarius explanation.
So, basically, what happens is that the astrological year, it begins at the Vernal Equinox. So, this is the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s when the sun enters Aries and there’s equal day and equal night. Now, what also happens is the sun’s path crosses the celestial equator. This is the line that divides the Heavens into a northern half and a southern half. This is where we’re getting that equal night and day.
There are two Equinoxes during the year: Vernal and Autumnal. When astrology was first formalized, the Vernal Equinox signaled the beginning of the sun’s entrance, not only into the sign of Aries, but also the constellation of Aries. So, this is where it gets a little weird. This is actually where astrology and astronomy kind of diverge. We know about this. So, it’s not … Sometimes NASA will come out with something where it’s like, “Your sign isn’t your sign.” All the astrologers are like, “We know! We know! Stop trying to undermine our very useful and important work.”
So, the sign of the zodiac no longer corresponds to this same constellation in the sky. So, this is important. It’s very correlated to these ages. So, in the 2nd Century BC, a Greek astronomer named Hipparchus discovered a phenomenon called the Procession of the Equinoxes. He found that, ever so slowly, the Earth shifts in its position, as it spins through the solar system. Scientists, or astronomers, sometimes refer to this slight shift as the Earth’s wobble. It’s a very scientific term, the wobble. I prefer the Procession of the Equinoxes, because it somewhat [inaudible 00:12:55] a top wobbling as it spins. Instead of remaining upright, the poles of the Earth, like the top and bottom of a spinning toy, lean from side-to-side as the Earth rotates on its axis.
Over the span of a great many years, this leaning of the Earth changes the placement of the celestial equator, because the celestial equator is on the same line as the Earth’s equator, except that it’s projected out into the Heavens. So, therefore, as the position of the Earth shifts, the line of the celestial equator shifts.
So, what’s happening here is that we have this really slow shift happening. Basically, at the very slow rate of about one degree every seven and a half years, the Equinoxes move through the zodiac. So, when the Babylonians first calculated the zodiac, the Vernal Equinox took place in the constellation of Aries. Around the time of the birth of Christ, this precession moves backwards, not forwards. So, we’re moving from Aries into Pisces, which is actually backwards through the Zodiac. At the time of the birth of Christ in the beginning of AD, the Earth shifted enough that the Vernal Equinox took place in the constellation of Pisces. So, we switched from Aries to Pisces when we switched from BC to AD.
This is pretty significant. I mean, it was significant enough that we even talk about the swath of time and years as BC and AD. I mean, that’s not coincidental. So, what happened is, though, around 2000, and the date is kind of … It’s definitely debated what the exact date is that we switched into this new age. We have moved. The Equinox has shifted into Aquarius. So, this is major. This is really, really significant. It signifies a whole new shift in human consciousness and our situation on this planet.
So, what we’re coming from right now, I mean, we know what we’re coming from because most of us were born in at least the very tail end of this Age of Pisces.
I’m just checking the sound here. There’s a little bit of background noise. I’m sorry about that. I do live in an apartment. So, if you hear things, surprise. I’m a human. I’m not in a fancy recording studio. It shouldn’t stop you from recording a podcast either.
So, anyway. The Age of Pisces, it’s super hierarchical. It’s based in only a select few holding the information. That’s why the church was able to really run the show. Also, the patriarchy run loose, pretty much. We can see both of those structures really changing drastically over the last 10, 20 years, and even more rapidly over the last year and two years. This is going to continue. Wow. It’s going to be fascinating. We’re really here at such a special time. I mean, could you imagine? Could you imagine? Oh my gosh. I have chills.
Could you imagine being part of the people who ushered in the Age of Pisces? I mean, this is when Christ was around. That’s, I mean, wild to think about, that we’re in this age and this same sort of intense transition period as when Christ was around. I’m not saying that we have Christ here because this is the Age of Aquarius. This is totally different. It signifies a shift in consciousness. That’s what Christ brought. He brought a shift in consciousness. Now we’re seeing that happen again, but in this Age of Aquarius we’re actually seeing it on a much grander scale. It’s putting power into individuals’ hands. We’re actually seeing a mass awakening happening. People that have been in a trance of the Piscean age are waking up to a deeper part of themselves, a deeper power. You probably have, if you’re listening to this.
So, let me go over some of the characteristics of this age. I want to go over Yogi Bhajan sutras for the age. They’re so helpful. Sometimes when I find myself questioning how … This is so strange. It’s like no humans even dealt with some of these issues that we’re facing today. These are really helpful.
Okay. Here are some of the characteristics of it. Change and learning is continuous and lifelong. We must maintain mental, emotional, and physical flexibility. These are the character of the Aquarian age.
Intellect is not enough. We need a new relationship to intuition, emotion, and instinct. Information is not enough, and neither is knowledge. We need wisdom. Learning is not enough. We must learn how to learn. Complexity is increasing, as is our need to deal with it. Our sense of personal identity, and its foundation, is shifting. This is huge. We see this, I mean … we see this even in the discussions around gender and that’s not a discussion I … It’s such a hard topic to even talk about because there is no gender. That’s one way you can look at it. We’re all just people.
This is an age of paradox, more global and more individual, with fewer boundaries and more demand for political separations. Everything is faster and we have less time. We need far more love and unity, for we have more fear and tremendous insecurity.
This one’s interesting. Stamina and constant peak performance are the common benchmarks to evaluate all people and their work. The need is to go inward and regenerate. This is something we talked about on episode seven. It is about peak performance. When I think peak performance, I think the flow states, which is really cool because flow states is a state of consciousness. So, actually, I bet it’s going to be easier for us to access peak performance and flow states in this Aquarian age, but deep rest is going to be needed. Deep access to our power sympathetic systems are going to be needed.
We require a reconciliation and integration of the spiritual side of life with the technological and material sides. A spiritual fitness to sense values and meaning. I mean, one of the things that Yogi Bhajan always talks about is computer sickness. I mean, what a great way to describe it. We’re hit with computer sickness. I think we all have that by 3:00 in the day.
Another point he makes here. There is no isolation. Each action we take must be considered ecologically and globally, because each person does affect, directly or indirectly, vast networks of people and other living beings and places. So, we’re waking up to this right now. We see this with the discussions around climate change and more. It’s just going to continue, just like Kelly mentioned on the last episode, episode eight.
So, a lot’s changing. One of the other kind of core characteristics here is that there’s an inundation of information. So, all the information that was previously kept behind these gatekeepers, these people who, for some reason, were smarter, or had the keys, or were better, rich would probably be the right term, the wealthy, whoever held the information held the power. The internet has obviously dismantled that. Now information is widely available to us.
The other thing that’s widely available to us is misinformation. So, this information age and this technological age that we’re in, it’s making us feel overwhelmed in that kind of sense of needing to sift through what is real and what’s not real. Also, when we want to find information, how do we find it? Because we can get it from so many places. I mean, previously, people owned books, like encyclopedias. What? A whole encyclopedia? A to Z. Then when they needed to know about something, they would go to the encyclopedia. This is … We have come a very long way. That is not that long ago. I used an encyclopedia when I was in school. I mean, this is … That’s not that long ago.
So, the rate at which we’re changing is … I mean, we can’t even begin to comprehend it. It is daily. It is moment to moment. The technological advances are moment to moment. What we have to do is we have to keep up. We have to keep up with the technology. We have to keep up with our practice. The technology of Kundalini yoga is uniquely positioned to help us handle these challenges, because the changing times also come with a lot of stress and exhaustion and fatigue and anxiety and depression. So, we’re going to see increasing numbers of people freaking out. We need a new user manual for how to be a human in this time period and in this age, in these new characteristics.
Kundalini yoga is one way of doing that. It’s very uniquely positioned to help us. From my experience, it has helped me drastically. I think sensitive types, like you, like me, and probably other people in your circle, we feel it sooner than other people. So, this information inundation and this shift into the age, it’s definitely underway and we’re definitely going through it. Some people almost have this lag time. Do you know what I mean?
So, some people are able to see 17 steps ahead. They’re like, “Guys, there’s going to be … If we keep this route, this is going to happen.” It’s almost like the sensitive types are preemptively anxious about the whole thing, or preemptively they’re seeing the whole structures crumble, whereas other people are lagging behind. So, if you are suffering right now, cut yourself some slack. Give yourself some grace because this is powerful. We chose this time for a very specific reason. We want to be on the leading edge of something new. Holy … I mean, man. We are. What a blessing.
Cut yourself some slack because on a much higher vantage point, the work that you’re doing, the emotional work and the labor of the levels of suffering that you’re experiencing, it’s not just for you. This isn’t a … It’s not your soul and your soul’s evolution. There’s a much greater thing happening here. You’re just a piece of it. But because you’re on this leading edge of it, you are helping carry everyone else through it.
So, here are the techniques. These are the sutras. So, sutra is to thread. It’s to weave and to thread. If you’re already a yogi, and if you’re not a yogi, or if you are a yogi, read the sutras of Patanjali. I’m not going to lie. I read that cover to cover, dog tagged, I made flash cards. I read it and it was like, “Why was I given a Bible? Because this is the only thing I needed to read.” I was like, “Wow. This would have saved me a lot of stress along the way.” If you have a kid, maybe consider giving them the yoga sutras, along with the Bible. Whatever your game is. I’m not saying your religion’s a game. Whatever your beliefs are, just make sure they’re well rounded.
Make sure you’re presenting a buffet of options, because the kids coming in during this time are very unique souls. Parents are in a very peculiar situation, because the souls coming in right now have come in specifically for this time, and they’ve never experienced the Piscean time. So, the only experiences of the Piscean time are through your own consciousness. That’s what they’re experiencing. So, the Gen Zs and then the ones coming in now, I mean, it’s powerful. They work differently. Their brains function differently. To be honest, part of keeping up is keeping up with them. So, Yogi Bhajan and the kind of Kundalini teachings, you don’t keep them away from the computer. You don’t know what their brains are capable of. They need to be able to function in this society and this age, and this age is marked by technology.
So, anyway. I’ll stop lecturing parents on how to parent when I don’t have kids.
So, the five sutras for the Aquarian age are, number one, recognize that the other person is you. Sounds pretty simple. I mean, it saves us, also, a lot though, if you look at any situation in your life right now that you’re mildly irritated by, annoyed by, or on the other end of the spectrum, really genuinely pissed off by or triggered by, recognize that the other person is you.
That’s a really holistic perspective, too, because I’m also seeing what I was just saying, which is this isn’t about you. This isn’t about me. This isn’t about my soul. This isn’t about your soul. This is about our souls. This is a much bigger situation during this time.
Number two, there is a way through every block. That feels so good. I love saying that one. That’s such a great one. It’s just … It’s so optimistic. I believe it. I really do. I would actually recommend making that one an affirmation and adding it to whatever affirmative statements you say to yourself daily. Which, if you don’t have ones, you should work on that, because even if you don’t believe them, eventually you believe them. It’s really a powerful practice. You can change the whole coding of your belief system. Again, even if you don’t believe them for years, eventually you will accidentally start believing them.
So, number two, there is a way through every block. Interestingly, I was actually just talking numerology with my mother about this, because I have a lot of nines. One of the things with nine is that you come up with very unique solutions to problems. You basically put in a phone call to the ethers and you’re like, “Hey, help me out here.” A solution appears. It’s always a weird one. It’s always one that you would never expect. I know it works.
So, consider that you have lifelines that you may not even consciously know of, because there’s a lot of interest in what’s happening on this planet right now. I have chills as I’m saying this because I know it deeply, that we are being … I don’t want to say watched because I don’t want to creep you out. There’s interest in what’s happening on this planet. There’s support from many, many, many, many layers, energies, and types. So, put in a phone call to them. If you’re having a block, there’s a way through. They’re going to help clear the path.
Number three, when the time is on you, start, and the pressure will be off. That’s a good one. That’s a really, really good one. I’m super into that one too because it’s a perfect curative to being inundated with information, because when you’re inundated with information, what happens? You completely stand still. You get the analysis paralysis. You’re like, “Well, there’s this option, there’s that option. I don’t even know. So, I’m just going to go take a nap,” which is fine. You should nap. I’m into it. Just start. Just do anything. Start and the pressure comes off, because at least there’s movement.
Again, one of the things that I’ve personally noticed is that if you just signal that you are willing to move, the energy starts flowing. If you signal that you’re available, and that you want to do something, starting is the signal for the rest of the energy to begin flowing.
Number four, understand through compassion or you will misunderstand the times. Hmm. Yeah. So, I mean, this is … I feel like this comes back quite a bit to number one, which is recognize the other person is you. Judgment, shaming, that whole game, it’s so old and it’s not going to work. The signature of this time is community. It is this kind of gathering force and an eclectivness. We’re in this together. If someone is suffering, that also means that you’re suffering.
So, we’re not separate here. So, the compassion and the heart-centeredness will help us here. Compassion through the heart center, that’s our fourth shakra, the fourth Sikh Guru is Guru Ram Das. So, I see this as a deep prayer to Guru Ram Das during this time. His energy is a major healing force during this age. So, if you are suffering, you know someone that’s suffering, I think that his energy is one to call on and lean on. There’s mantras. Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru, and [inaudible 00:34:24] Ram Das Guru. It’s powerful. Powerful sound currents.
Number five, vibrate the cosmos and the cosmos shall clear the path. That’s good stuff. That’s really good stuff. I mean, this guy knew what he was talking about. I’m just saying. I’m so grateful for this. It’s really, really good stuff.
So, basically, the imagery I have here, it’s actually what came to me when I was chanting recently. I was trying to explain why we chant mantra. It’s because it gets us into this vibrational current. You know when you’re driving onto a highway and someone in front of you is going really slow, or maybe you’re going too slow and the oncoming traffic is much faster than you? You can’t get on. It’s like a … I’m trying not to curse. It’s an s-h-i-t show. It’s often pretty stressful because you’re like, “Oh my god. I can’t get on. They’re not letting me on. Now they’re going too fast. Now the lane’s running out.” You can’t merge easily.
If you want to merge easily, you speed up to the traffic speed. Then it’s no problem, as long as you’re going the speed of the traffic. You can hop right on. You just seamlessly move into the traffic. So, that’s how I see the mantra sound currents and the vibrational frequencies we work with. We are getting up to speed of this time. If we get into these frequencies, we’re able to merge with the traffic of it, and the current of it, and then the traffic hurries us.
When we swam, it’s the dragging effect. So, I used to lead the lane, and it was so annoying because everyone would drag off of me. So, my times would be a little bit slower in practice because, literally, people are pulling, they’re feeding on my energy, because they’re in the current of me. It makes the water smoother for them. It’s actually pulling them forward. That’s what happens. You’re being pulled forward if you can just get into the current. So, you have to get up to speed of the traffic, and then the drag force of it is just going to help pull you along. It’s actually going to be easier once you’re in it.
That’s good stuff. So, this also is a great plug for learning astrology. So, vibrating the cosmos, you’re always intuitively driven and guided by the cosmic force and the astrology around you, again, whether you’re tracking it daily or not. I think vibrate the cosmos goes deeper because I think it’s taking things out of the mundane perspective of them and putting them into the much greater force of what’s happening. If you can vibrate that, that’s where the change happens.
It’s like if you’re … This is a weird one that came to mind. If you’re in the Hunger Games, you’re in that bubble, that force field. When you’re a player within it, you can’t do anything. If you want to put out the fire, stop the tidal wave or whatever, you can’t do it because you’re not in control. If you go outside of that bubble though, and you’re the God force of that, then everything’s within your power. So, I’m not saying that you become God if you’re vibrating the cosmos, but at least you’re on the vibrational frequency of what’s going on.
So, you want to get into that current because then life’s moving you. You’re not trying to push a boulder up the hill. Initially, it requires a lot of trust. I mean, at least for me, the way I’ve been programmed, and I don’t think it’s anyone’s doing, any particular person or situation, I think it’s just in the air. My particular programming is that it’s a very 2D reality here. There’s nothing special happening. We have to do things in a certain way, and that there’s a certain direction of our life that mirrors generations before us. I don’t know if that’s true anymore. Again, the people before, the people in BC, right before AD hit, meaning the people in that Age of Aries, right before the age of Pisces began, they probably weren’t living quite the same way as the people in the Age of Pisces began living.
So, this is where it requires trust because we don’t know what life is going to look like. We actually have no clue. So, when you have a kid or a young person in your life and they’re telling you that they envision their life to look a certain way, you should listen to them, because you don’t know what life is going to look like. For you to pretend to would be … Maybe you have some psychic glimpses. The kids are really in touch with it. So, as little as we can put the Piscean programming on them, the better, because they’re really more naturally in touch with this vibrational frequency of the cosmos as they are when they’re born, and just when they’re younger, as well.
So, vibrate the cosmos and the cosmos shall clear the path. These are really hopeful statements. They all thread together. They thread our lives. They thread through the fabric of our reality. I’m just so honored to have access to this wisdom from Yogi Bhajan. I’m honored beyond belief to share these teachings. I hope it’s really helpful for you to have this knowledge because it’s a perspective that really changes the way that you look at the mundaneness of some of the stressors in your life. We’re in a much bigger situation than the guy that cut you off in the parking lot, even though he’s probably a jerk.
On that note, I will go more into astrology, and I really intend to help as many people as possible learn how to read their own birth charts. I can read your chart but that’s not useful if you don’t know how to read your own. The Co-Star app and all those apps that can kind of give you a glimpse, that’s great, but it’s a language. It’s a lost language. It’s more important in this age than in the previous age. It’s very important to know your own chart. Even if you need other people to help interpret it sometimes, it’s important to have your own capacity for trying to understand your life. You’re the one living it. Even if you’re like, “I didn’t know I was like that,” or, “I didn’t know I was …” It’s still you and you, and you’re spending the most time with you. You might as well learn your own chart.
I’m going to come up with some courses and stuff. Let me get the studio open first. One thing at a time, or maybe not. There’s a lot of things cooking at once. That’s how time space works these days.
